Carlos Laate’s says Mother Earth provides all the natural materials to work with, no traders or money is exchanged to receive what is already provided. Hand-coiled clay is painted with pigments revealing abundant rainfall and the Zuni Rainbird known as The Bringer Of Life. The lovely dark color is from processed banana yucca fruit, New Mexico’s state flower. A hardy member of the agave or Agavaceae family, these native fruits were a traditional food of the Apache, Din and other Indigenous cultures.
