Some First Nations traditional beliefs include a creation story where turtle was there in the beginning, carrying the knowledge and teachings of all ancestors on its back. Robert Michael Weahkee’s burnished antler Turtle’s carapace is etched and gilded with gold leaf. Eyes are from turquoise inlays, while an offering necklace is loaded with lapis lazuli, citrine and lemon quartz beads. We can enhance a turtle’s natural habitat by leaving leaf litter in place and avoiding pesticides. About 5 1/4″ long, 2 1/2″ wide and roughly 2 1/2″ tall.
