In the old days, Zuni women retrieved water for daily needs by filling and balancing large beautiful pottery jars called ollas on their heads. Here, an Olla Corn-Maiden shares in the work with a peaceful face etched and filled with jet paste. A sculpted olla jar holds crushed turquoise to represent life-giving water. Incised stars and jet inlays adorn this approximately 3 1/4″ including bale and 2 3/4″ wide pendant sculpted from iridescent smoky mother-of-pearl by Kateri Quandelacy Sanchez.
